Ham and cheese puffs were one of my favorite snacks as a kid. My mom would make them on a Saturday afternoon and we would snack on them all afternoon. However, I put a twist on her recipe and elevated these puffs to feel a little more adult-ish. They’re quick and easy and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love ham and cheese?!
Prep Time: 15 Minutes Minutes | Cook Time: 11 Minutes | Servings: 24 Pieces
- 1/2 Yellow Onion, chopped
- 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 3 Tablespoons Butter, softened
- 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 lb deli Ham
- 1/2 Cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- 1/2 Cup Shredded Gouda Cheese
- 1 Egg
- 1 refrigerated can of Crescent Rolls
First, get the oven preheating to 375°F. In a small nonstick skillet saute the Onion in Olive Oil on medium heat until lightly browned, about 6-7 minutes. Set aside and let cool completely.
In a small bowl combined the softened Butter, Garlic Powder, and Salt. Set aside. Now, it’s time to start making the filling! Chop the deli Ham up into small pieces and place in a medium size mixing bowl. To the bowl add the Mozzarella, Gouda, Egg, and cooled Onions. Mix until combined well.
On a large cutting board or piece of Parchment Paper roll out the can of Crescent Rolls into a big rectangle. Use a rolling pin to secure the edges of the triangles so it is well connected (pictures below for reference). Next, with a spoon smear the Butter Garlic mix all over the Crescent Rolls. Be sure to spread it out all the way to the edges. Now, with a knife cut the dough into 24 equal pieces.
In a mini muffin tin begin placing each of the dough pieces into each place on the pan (picture below for reference) with the butter side facing inward. Your hands will get a little messy here with butter, but trust me, it’s so worth it.
Next, scoop in about 1 Tablespoon of filling into each dough cup. Bake in the oven for 11 minutes or until the edges have lightly browned and all the cheese is melted. Let cool for 5 minutes and then enjoy!
