- 2 Tablespoons butter (salted)
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 medium yellow onion, diced
- 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
- 30 oz crushed tomatoes
- 1 Tablespoon tomato paste
- 1/4 of each: salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, oregano
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 2 Tablespoons fresh basil (about 4 big leaves)
Add the butter and olive oil to a medium saucepan over medium heat and let the butter melt completely. Next, add the onions and let cook for 4-5 minutes until they begin to brown and become translucent. Next, add the garlic to the saucepan and stir until fragrant (about a minute or two). Reduce the temperature down to low.
Slowly add in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the saucepan and combine with the onions and garlic. Next, add in the seasonings, sugar, and fresh basil. Stir to combine. Cover and let sit for 10 minutes.
